A reprint of the first collection of Poe's works, the Griswold four volume edition published by Redfield, 1850-1856 (BAL 16158, 16159, 16161). Original green cloth, gilt lettered and decorated, pictorial frontis in each of the ten volumes. Editor Rufus Wilmot Griswold, "(was) the man who blackened Poe's moral character and literary reputation so thoroughly that it was to be a century before the truth would begin to emerge", contributed a lengthy "Memoir of the Author" (Thompson, ed., "The Great Short Works of Edgar Allan Poe", HarperCollins, 1970, p.552). In v.4 the frontis and prelims are bound in twice - in the front where they belong, and again in the back! Light rubbing, a Very Good set.
