San Francisco: W.H. Bancroft, 1865. First edition (Cowan, p.539). Original limp purple cloth, gilt lettered, decorated in gilt and blind, pink endpapers, all edges gilt, 100 pp. A poem commemorating James Sewall Reed and the "California Hundred" - a militia formed in San Francisco to support the Union Army in the Civil War. Reed was killed in the Battle of Okolona on February 22, 1864. A little wear (at the bottom of the front joint), binder's leaves moderately foxed. Faint dampstain to the bottom half of the fore edge of the last few leaves. A Very Good copy.
