Boston: J.G. Cupples, (1890). Stated second edition, this is the second printing, the first to bear the author's real name (see BAL 6462). Bound in half cloth, gilt lettered and decorated, and marbled paper boards, all edges sprinkled, top edge also stained; original pictorial wrappers bound in. The binding is likely to be from the publisher -- it is seen on at least one other copy: "This later printing (half cloth, marbled boards, wrappers bound in)....was issued in cloth and paper. The pictorial wrappers of the paper issue are bound in the cloth editions, as here; this binding appears to be publisher's." (Brick Row Book Shop, Catalogue 120, Part 1, 547). A presentation copy, Fuller quotes his own words: "...enamored only of that delightful land whose beauty age cannot wither and whose infinite variety custom can never stale.' p.168. For Miss Ethel Reardon, with kindest regards of Henry B. Fuller, Chicago, September, 1916." Laid in is a note in Fuller's hand: "Coises! This is the first edition -- only it's bound in boards, as well as in paper. H.B.F." Four leaves of ads bound in the back, including an ad for the first printing with the Stanton Page pseudonym, in paper or cloth. Some wear, a Very Good copy.
