Two notes, each dated in 1793, "To the Treasurer of Westford School", each certifying that a Kitridge boy ("Master George Kitridge", "Mr Theodore Kitridge") has qualified to enter Westford (Massachusetts) School. Hedge had graduated from Harvard the previous year; he was the first preceptor of the Westford School, founded in 1788 and still operating as Westford Academy. He soon left for a tutorship at Harvard, and retired as a Professor in 1830. He was the father of Frederic Henry Hedge. Each annotated on the obverse by Hedge, and one bears notes in another contemporary hand. Paper with edge tears, toned, damp-staining, in Fair condition.
