Original red cloth, gilt-lettered and -decorated, illustrated, 620 pp. The compiler, the second daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson, presents to her cousin, Lidian Emerson Bridge (Jackson), dated 24 November 1916. Stories and verses for young children from many sources. Several are from Emerson's English friend William Allingham - his wife Helen has supplied some of the illustrations that accompany them. "Dedicated to the Descendants of Lidian Emerson", the compiler's mother, and many contributors are her mother's favorites. Edith Emerson married William H. Forbes, son of John Murray Forbes, a railroad tycoon. William became a founder and president of American Telephone and Telegraph. Lidian Emerson Bridge's father was Dr. Charles T. Jackson, thought by some to have discoverered the anaesthetic uses of ether. He was Lidian Jackson Emerson's brother. Spine lightly sunned, else Fine.
