Dated New York, Jan. 10, no date, to Mrs. Rollins, regretting that she can't promise a visit this time, since "My engagements have rolled up in such an astonishing way that I doubt if I am able to get over to Brooklyn at all." She suggests lunch in New York, so that she can "have the pleasure of seeing your face once more". She thanks her for the hospitality and hopes for the "chance of returning it in Massachusetts." Mrs Spofford (1835-1921) was a writer and poet. In common with Emily Dickinson, she was a protege of Thomas Wentworth Higginson. Two conjugate leaves, 2 1/2 pp. Tender at the fold, else Fine.
