Imprint of Black, 173 Washington St., Boston - barely readable with a hand lens and flashlight, it has been very faintly hand-stamped on the back. James Wallace Black was active from 1852 to 1896. He used "163 Washington & 173 Washington" in his imprint, but used the 173 Washington address by itself from 1860-1862 only (Steele and Polito, 1993). Seated, from the waist up, left hand in left pants pocket, in a jacket and vest. One corner bumped, else Fine.
