Black half-morocco, marbled paper boards, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, original green wrappers bound in. Extra-illustrated (grangerized) with forty plates. Binder's (M.Rimell) instructions in pencil throughout. One of 100 large paper copies, 50 in green wrappers and 50 in brown-gray. Presentation copy: "Hon. John R. Bartlett from his friend George Livermore." John Russell Bartlett was an antiquarian and bibliographer from Providence, R.I. He published the Dictionary of Americanisms (1848), Bibliography of Rhode Island (1864), and the John Carter Brown Catalogue (1865-1882). He should not be confused with John Bartlett of Cambridge, Mass., author of Familiar Quotations (1855). Some rubbing, a few plates foxed. A Very Good copy.
