Dated Boston, July 9th, 1846. To Edward Everett Hale, asking him to notice in "The Daily.....a translation of Dr. Varenstrop's(?) thorough and painstaking review of the Reports (of the Boston Prison Society). It is humiliating to see how much better instructed in our own prison matters is this German than any of ourselves." Then, "You will be happy to hear that your friend Sam Longfellow has preached in Cambridge...Wm Ware liked him very, very much." Finally, "Howe's Republic is in the press....I think you will like it very much." Hale was a Unitarian minister, reformer, proprietor and editor of the Boston Daily Advertiser, and author of "The Man Without a Country" (1863). One sheet folded to make four pages, all are used. Some wear, in Very Good condition.
