Washington: Gales and Seaton, Printers, 1845. First edition, the Senate version (Howes, F-370; Paher, 640). Original brown cloth, gilt-lettered, ruled in blind, 22 inserted engraved plates, four inserted maps (two folding), lacking the large Preuss map (and with no evidence of the pocket that holds it in other copies), 693 pp. Howes finds this Senate edition to be less common than the House version of the same year. Some scattered foxing, one gathering a little proud. Cloth expertly repaired at top of spine, a 2 x 10mm tear at the front hinge, else virtually unworn, clean and fresh. A Very Good copy.
Title: Report of the Exploring Expedition to the Rocky Mountains in the Year 1842, and to Oregon and North California in the Years 1843-'44.
