Original red cloth, lettered in gilt, decorated in gilt and black, frontis and 163 pp. Anderson, a "peasant poet", a "surfaceman" on the railroad, published several volumes of poetry. Self-educated, he spent his last 30 years as a librarian, eventually chief librarian, at the University of Edinburgh. He was "a popular character in artistic and academic circles and met notable figures of his time, including....Thomas Carlyle...and Pre-Rahaelite painter Sir Joseph Noel Paton." (Cumnock Chronicle, April 17, 2014). A bit of rubbing. Frontis detached but present, its tissue guard missing, else Very Good.
