Original medium brown cloth, gilt-lettered (THALATTA/TICKNOR & CO.), decorated in blind, 206 pp., top and fore-edges cut, chocolate endpapers. Bound without ads at the front. An anthology, edited anonymously by Thomas Wentworth Higginson and Samuel Longfellow (Cambridge Public Library, 1906 Bibliography of Higginson). Thoreau's contribution is "My Life is Like a Stroll". He wrote to his fiance back in England (Mulhauser, Correspondence, II, 429) "There is an infinity of trash in the book - but it is prettily printed, and Mr. Fields the bookseller gave it me this morning."
