Boston: Carter, Hendee, 1832. Original blue cloth, printed paper label, all edges cut, 264 pp. An optimistic view of human nature in the process of becoming perfected. Burton was a Harvard educated Unitarian minister, mostly "at-large". He spent about 3 years at Brook Farm; he left unexpectedly and without explanation in the spring of 1844 (Lindsay Swift, "Brook Farm...", 1904). Very little wear, a nice label, a bit rubbed. A stain on about a third of the back board through the last 10 or so pages. A Very Good copy.
