San Francisco: Privately printed, (1913). Fifth edition of this translation by Edward Robeson Taylor, the first was 1897. Original plain paper boards, printed paper spine label, 193 pp., including notes from the translator. Printed by Taylor, Nash and Taylor. The Nash is John Henry Nash - he went into business for himself in 1916. A presentation copy, inscribed and signed to English writer Edmund Gosse. Heredia (1842-1905) was born to a Cuban father and a French mother. "His fame rests on the 118 sonnets, among the most beautiful in French literature, of 'Les Trophees'", 1893 (Oxford Companion of French Literature). Edward Robeson Taylor (1838-1923) was a lawyer and a poet. He was briefly the mayor of San Francisco, and there is an elementary school there named after him. Three small stains on the boards, else Fine.
