Past and Present, New York: William H. Colyer, 1844, Tarr's A13.4.a, the 2nd state of the title page; Sartor Resartus, New York: Saxton and Miles, 1844, Tarr's A5.7.a. Bound together in contemporary half leather, gilt lettered and ruled, and marbled paper boards, all edges plain. Moderate wear. The front joint repaired long ago, and the leather then varnished, apparently as a preservative. A newspaper clipping pasted to the rear endpapers - a review of some of Carlyle's works by George Makepeace Towle (1841-1893). Some stray staining inside, and the Sartor paper browned. A Good, sound copy.
