London: John Murray, 1816. First edition (Wise, 32). Period style half morocco, gilt-lettered and -decorated, and marbled paper boards. Lacks the half-title. Shelley and Byron admired Christabel, as did Peacock and Walter Scott, whose "Lady of the Lake" was heavily influenced by it - he had seen it in manuscript. It was its "dangerous air of sexual mystery" that made it so compelling. Murray printed 500 copies, and quickly followed with two reprints (Richard Holmes, "Coleridge", New York, 1998). A beautiful, Fine copy.
