Dated May 3, no year, to a lady, expressing his wish "....to call some day & see your decorations. You will probably have seen the Academy: it does not seem to be a striking exhibition, though I hear that Watts (whom I think you estimate highly) has some good portraits." Palgrave was a poet and a critic. When he died, in 1897, Henry Adams said of him that after 35 years of friendship "....I have never found myself obliged to change any of the opinions he taught me to hold, or to correct any of the rules I got from him." (Letter of 16 Oct., 1897, in Letters...., 1892-1918, ed. Ford). On mourning paper, one sheet folded to make four pages, two are used. Folded as though for mailing, mounting adhesions to p.4, else Very Good.
