No date, but likely to be before 1883. From a young woman to her sister, describing a prospective trip to Mexico, via San Francisco, on the brig "Hesperian", as companion to a woman who would marry, on board ship, a "Mr. Snider that belongs to the telegraph Company....a widower with 2 children. He has a fine postition. Tom knows him and her to. I wroat (sic) and told him." Captain Winding, of the "Hesperian", a friend of Mr. Snider, would perform the marriage. The "Hesperian", was built in Eureka, CA., in 1865 by E. and H. Cousins, at a cost of $22,500. Her last owner and Master was G.J.F. Winding. The brig drops out of the registry in 1883 (Marine Digest, May 3, 1941). One sheet folded to make 4 pp., all are used, about 500 words. Some soil and staining but in Good condition.
