Howe, Julia Ward. Autograph Letter, Signed.
Dated Friday, 21st Nov., 241 Beacon St. (Boston, no year, but about 1900). A small sheet folded to make four pages, all are used. To "Dear Martha", asking for help in planning "a programme" for the first meetings of the newe Boston Authors Club, founded by Mrs. Howe, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, and Helen M. Winslow, and still active today. Mrs. Howe is reluctantly its first president: "I do wish we could scare up another much younger President....do come to me now, and let us take counsel together." She especially regrets that Helen Winslow was unwilling. She was president for nine years. Folded as though for mailing. In Fine condition.
