Dated 15th 3rd Mo 1876. To "My Dear Friend,.....I am at the Marlboro, as usual, & shall hope to see thee. N. Hampshire has done nobly. It is a great victory over the follies & lies of the Ad.(?) as well as the Democratic party." Whittier is likely referring to the New Hampshire elections of March 14, 1876, which restored the Republican party to power after 5 years of Democratic dominance. The Marlboro Hotel was on Washington Street in Boston. One sheet, one page, folded twice, pasted to a larger album leaf. Paste stains showing through. In Good condition.
