1 Ferrier, Susan Edmonstone. Marriage.

Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1893. Two volumes, complete. Original green cloth, lettered and decorated in silver. Originally published in Edinburgh in 1818, Miss Ferrier's first novel; this version by the Roberts Brothers, publisher of Emily Dickinson. "There's no talking to a young woman now about marriage, but she is all in a blaze about hearts, and, and,..." (V.1 p.54). An engraved frontis in each volume. Light dust soiling; offsetting to endpapers from an old, acidic, plain paper dust jacket, no longer present, else in Fine condition.

2 Ferrier, Susan. The Inheritance. By the Author of Marriage.

In Three Volumes. Edinburgh: William Blackwood and London: T. Cadell, 1824. First edition (NCBEL, v.3). Contemporary plum half-calf, gilt-lettered and decorated, marbled paper boards, ribbon markers (one is detached but present). V.1: (a)-1, A-Aa-8, Bb-2; V.2: (a)-1, A-Cc-8; V.3: (a)-1, A-Y-8, Z-4. Ownership signatures of Thomas Moore in each volume appear to be contemporary but not the Moore of Lalla Rookh. Miss Ferrier was a friend of Walter Scott; she wrote three novels of Scottish life. Spine sunned to tan, somewhat rubbed, lightly foxed. A Very Good copy.
