Boston: D.C. Heath & Co., 1893. A reprint. Original cloth, gilt, decorated in gilt and black. Miss Peabody introduced the kindergarten, a German invention, to the United States. A little cocked, some dust soiling, rubbing. Very Good.

Boston: D.C. Heath, 1893. A reprint. Original cloth, gilt, decorated in gilt and black. Ownership markings: "Florence Kindergarten. Oct. 1896" written on the front free endpaper. The Florence Kindergarten, Florence Mass., was started by Samuel L. Hill, a successful businessman, as a part of the Hill Institute. "Its first class of 15 children (was assembled) in Mr. Hill's front room at 33 Maple Street, on January 3, 1876, (it) became the enthusiasm of the last six years of his life. A speaker, Elizabeth P. Peabody, came to Florence in 1875, presenting the ideas of German educator, Friedrich Froebel, who advocated "play gardens" for young children. After two or three lectures, Mr. Hill was convinced."
