Salem: Newcomb and Gauss, 1916. First edition. Original printed wrappers, one of 125 copies. Reprinted from "The Southern Rose" of March 2 and 16, 1839. Paltsits argues here that "A Southern Gentleman" was William Gilmore Simms but Jacob Blanck identifies him as Samuel Gilmore, a New Englander who took a pulpit in Charleston, South Carolina, and made several contributions to "The Southern Rose". A presentation copy, "Oscar Wegelin with the klindest regards of Victor H. Paltsits". Wrapper separating a little at top and bottom of spine, else a Fine copy.
