1 Bryant, William Cullen. Poems.

Cambridge: Hilliard and Metcalf, 1821. First edition (BAL 1587). Recent half-leather, lettered and ruled in gilt, and contemporary paper boards, (1)-(3):6; 4:4, 44 pp., one of 750 copies printed. Edited (anonymously) by Richard Henry Dana, Sr. and Edward Tyrell Channing. This copy is presented by Channing: "Miss E. Buckminster with the sincere regards of Edward T. Channing." This is likely Eliza Buckminster, later Lee, the writer and translator (Sketches of New England, Walt and Vult, from the German of Jean Paul Richter). Channing, originally from Newport, R.I., had been editor of the North American Review (1818-1819) and was Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory at Harvard (1819 to 1850), where he assigned themes to such notables at Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. He was the brother of William Ellery Channing (the elder). Front board expertly re-attached, else Fine.

2 [Bryant, William Cullen] Everett, Edward, John Quincy Adams and George Canning. The Monroe Doctrine" (by Everett), "A Letter of John Quincy Adams" (to William Ellery Channing, dated 1837) and "Balance of Power in Europe" (excerpted from a speech in parliament in 1826). No.34 of the Loyal Publications Society.

New York: Wm. C. Bryant, Printers, 1863. First edition. Original printed wrappers (cover title). A list of the first 36 publications of the society on the back wrapper. The society had been formed to support the civil war effort of the federal government. Spine chipped, wrappers a little stained. A Very Good copy.

Boston: The Bibliophile Society, 1907. First edition (Borst, A21) Original vegetable vellum, illustrated, 28 pp., in a double slipcase, printed paper label. Limited to 470 copies. This one has the bookplate of Norman Bridge. With a facsimile of the manuscript of each poem, Bryant's poem introduced by Curtis Hidden Page, Thoreau's by Franklin Sanborn. A Fine copy, slipcases just Good, being somewhat worn and soiled.
