1 [American Literary Periodical] Harper's New Monthly Magazine.

New York: Harper and Brothers, August, 1871. Misbound in original printed wrappers dated August, 1870. Volume 43, Number 255, but the wrapper says No. 243, corrected in red ink by a contemporary hand. Edges worn, paper browned, a Good copy.

2 [American Literary Periodical] Oliver Optic's Magazine.

Boston: Lee and Shepard, 1873-1874. Seventeen issues, all in original printed wrappers, persimmon in color. Assorted numbers from volumes 13-16 of this monthly, the first January, 1873, the last October, 1874. Some short runs but with lots of gaps, a complete run of these four volumes would be 24 issues. William Taylor Adams wrote under the pseudonym "Oliver Optic", mostly for a juvenile audience, especially for boys. During the period of the present issues the subtitle of his magazine changed from "Our Girls and Boys" to "For Young and Old". Three issues with spines re-inforced with old transparent tape; three lack the rear wrapper; a couple with eroded spines; about half in nice condition.

3 [American Literary Periodical] The Analectic Magazine for September, 1817.

Philadelphia: Moses Thomas, 1817. Original printed wrappers, pp. (177)-264, a leaf of ads at the front and the rear, and an engraved frontis ("A View on the Hudson"). Quite worn, stained, paper browned. Contemporary ink signature of "Richard Tubman, Augusta, Geo."

4 [American Literary Periodical] The Christian Parlor Magazine.

Volume 1, No. 10 (New York: no publisher, February, 1845). Original printed wrappers, pp. (289)-319, illustrated with an engraved frontis (The Walhalla) and a hand-colored floral plate (The Scarlet Columbine, Aquilegia Canadensis). This issue contains an anonymous review of Parke Godwin's "A Popular View of the Doctrines of Charles Fourier", 1844 (see Myerson, 1978: C15). A negative review by the "Parlor". Godwin, a Brook Farmer, was trying to drum up support for the American Associationist movement. Some edge chipping, but essentially a Fine copy.

New York: Sheldon & Co., 1872-1873. Volumes 14, 15, 16, three volumes uniformly bound in half-leather, gilt lettered and decorated, and marbled paper boards, with the original owner's name in gilt at the base of the spine. Contributors include John William De Forest, Justin McCarthy, Ivan Turgenev (Turgenief, "Visions - A Phantasy"), Bayard Taylor, John Burroughs, Kate Sanborn, Joaquin Miller, Henry James, Jr., Christopher Pearse Cranch, Julian Hawthorne, Richard Grant White, Charles Astor Bristed (Carl Benson). Mild rubbing, a few stray marks. A Fine shelf presence. Shipping for this heavy set at cost.

Volumes 18-24, seven volumes uniformly bound in half-leather, gilt lettered and decorated, and marbled paper boards, with the original owner's name in gilt at the base of the spine. Contributors include John William De Forest, Justin McCarthy, Ivan Turgenev (Tourguenieff), James Freeman Clarke, Sidney Lanier, Paul Hayne, Emma Lazarus, Edmund Clarence Stedman, Constance Fenimore Woolson, John Burroughs, Henry James, Jr., Christopher Pearse Cranch, Julian Hawthorne, Richard Grant White. Mild rubbing, a few stray marks. V.23 with a 2 inch split at the top of the front joint. A Fine shelf presence. Shipping for this heavy set at cost.
