Imprint of Conly (Charles F.), Boston. Alcott is about 75, a full profile, he is looking to his left. Conly was active in Boston beginning in 1883 (Polito and Steele, 1993). From an old New York photograph collection, the "Culver Service", with multiple stampings on the back of the card, also stains and abrasions there. The front of the card is very good, the image is Fine.

3 [Alcott, Amos Bronson]. Sleep and Silence. A Conversation Held in Boston on Monday, February 2nd, 1852.

In "The Independent" for November 6, 1873. An anonymous report , 32 column inches in this folio newspaper, of one of Alcott's "Conversations". This one was attended by, among others, William Ellery Channing, his parents -- Dr. and Mrs. Walter Channing, Mrs. Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mr. Higginson, Miss Hinckley, Miss Parsons, Mrs. Parsons, Miss Littell, Mr. Browne, Mr. Fisher. In addition to discussions of sleep ("the Divine Being alone is truly awake") and silence ("The word stands for a fine mystery"), some time was devoted to the Hungarian republican Louis Kossuth, whose celebrated visit to Boston occurred in 1852. The complete issue, removed from a bound volume. Very Good.
