1 Everett, A.H. Alexander Hill. An Address to the Literary Societies of Dartmouth College on the Character and Influence of German Literature.

Boston: Henry L. Devereux, 1839. First edition. Original green printed wrappers, 60 pp. Several of the Germans, but mainly Goethe and Schiller, are discussed. Everett helped bring the Germans to the attention of the American public while editing the North American Review (1830-35). Wrappers chipped and torn, contemporary inscription torn from top front. Some pages dog-eared. A Good copy.

2 Everett, A.H. Alexander Hill. An Oration Delivered at Holliston, Mass. on the Fourth of July, 1839, at the Request of the Democratic Citizens of the Ninth Congressional District.

Boston: Henry L. Devereux, 1839. First edition. Original green printed wrappers. Not in Allibone. An evaluation of the state of contemorary politics, critical of Daniel Webster. This is surprising since the author's brother, Edward, was for years the protege of Webster, shadowing him as he rose in the Whig hierarchy, and succeeding him as Secretary of State upon his death in 1852. Moderate foxing. Wrappers creased, a gouge near spine, but a Very Good copy.

3 Everett, A.H. Alexander Hill. Autograph Letter, Signed.

Dated Court Street, Saturday afternoon, no month, day, or year. To G.W. Warren, Esq., admitting that he sent "a copy of the address" to the wrong printer, but suggesting that it would be inadvisable to try to get it back. "It was rather an act of inadvertence in me to give it to them, .....(but) I should ....take it as a favor, as things now stand.....if they could be employed to proceed with the printing." Everett was a diplomat, editor of the North American review, and brother of Edward Everett. Folded as though for mailing, a little wear, light mounting stain. One page. Very Good.
